Tom Young

Tom Young brings a lifetime of motorcycle riding, racing & retail experience to PSSR track days.

Tom has ridden street, dirt, trials, SSDT in Scotland, Baja desert, club TT, supermoto, central America, south America, motocross, choppers, sand bikes, road racers, endurance race, cross country, desert race, dualsport, vintage MX, vintage trials, Alaska with a sidecar, but never entered a sanctioned hillclimb or speedway event (wimp!). He also shows/displays vintage & classic bikes. If you can name a post-WWII motorbike, Tom has ridden it, dropped it, sold it, serviced it, bought it and sold it again, probably to you.

Tom has over 35 years riding experience, starting with a chrome-fendered step-through Honda 90. Tom's road race career began in '78 with a Ducati 900SS, evolving to a BMW 90/S, followed by a GS1000. His current trackday ride is a Zlock-motored F-USA ZX-9 missile. Tom is campaigning a restored '90's era Zlock ZX7R Superbike in local road races for the '04 season.

Tom owned and operated Portland's premier motorcycle accessory store, Rose City Motorcycle Sales, for over 21 years, as well as an off-road accessories store, until he sold the business to Cycle Gear in 2001.

Tom honed his innovative retail and marketing skills during 20 years of track side services at Portland International Raceway. He is now operating under the Competition Motors Track Side Services banner (CMTSS). With his track-able cohorts Matt Alfonso & Diane Stafford he is at the ready to service PSSR attendees with tires, parts, accessories, tech assistance and general help. You will find Tom at the local road race events with complete service for tires, gas, shields and way more. He can be reached at (503) 320-2475 or compmotors@comcast.net.

Quotes:
"Back in 1977 the first really fast bike I ever bought was setup by a guy named Tom Young. A new DOHC Kawasaki with drag bars and "triple" disc brakes. Tom was enthused by bikes then and remains totally enthused now." - Al Edwards
