If you engage in unsafe behavior that endangers yourself or other riders, or if you crash, you will be asked to leave and will forfeit the remainder of your fee for the day. A significant crash will end the session for that group--SO DON'T CRASH! Crashing is not fun, and it's expensive. It definitely will ruin a good day. This is not a race. Adrenaline rushes are great for a roller coaster ride, but not for the track or street. If you scare yourself, back off; building confidence and skill is a slow process. Adrenaline tends to cloud rational decision making, which can get you into trouble. Go fast slowly and under control. Remember--this is not a race. Win only by ending the day intact.
We will be running, rain or shine; adjustments may be necessary in response to conditions. Watch out for the painted lines on the track--they are very slippery when wet. Also be wary of puddles that sometimes form near apex curbing. It is very critical to gradually pick up speed at the start of each session. Your tires will require a couple of laps to warm up to an appropriate temperature. Cold tires are dangerous; watch your speed. We will be running the first two laps of each session under a caution flag to allow time for tires to come up to temperature. Instructors, turn workers and monitors will be watching closely for dangerous riding.
All glass and plastic lenses must be taped or removed. Tape headlight and taillight and unplug or remove (i.e., make them non-operational). Remove rear view mirrors. Remove all quick detachable bags (i.e., tank and saddle bags). Brakes Pads and rotor in good condition, with minimum 80% pad material remaining. Pedal and lever pressure firm. Brake fluid clean and at proper level. Tires Minimum 80% of tread remaining. Proper inflation pressure - make sure tires are at manufacturer's recommended pressure for high speed riding; it's up to you to check them. Bearings Check wheels for side play. Check steering head and swing arm. Make sure handlebars and levers are tight. Check cables, wheel alignment, spokes, etc. Chains properly adjusted and sprockets in good shape. Bike must be in good working order with no loose parts and NO fluid leaks. PIR is a public park and has a 100 decibel limit during the days we hold classes; excessively loud bikes will be pulled off the track. This is strictly enforced by PIR management. For safety reasons, if your bike fails the technical inspection, you will not be allowed on the track, and your money will be forfeited. If you have any questions regarding technical inspection, call Tom Young at (503) 251-1122 for assistance.
You must have a valid driver's license with a motorcycle endorsement, or race license from a recognized racing organization (OMRRA, WMRRA, AFM, AMA) DOT or Snell-approved helmet in good condition Leather boots that cover your ankles Full leather gloves Full leathers, either one- or two-piece zipped together, are recommended for all groups but are required for the A and B groups; C group may ride in armored textile (i.e., Aerostitch, Joe Rocket, etc.); in all instances, no bare skin exposed, so leave "showing a little crack" to the plumbers and construction workers.
All riders must wear a back protector.
PSSR track days are designed for riders who have accumulated sufficient riding experience, confidence & road miles beyond that of beginning riders (in the range of 10,000 to 12,000 miles) and want to gain experience & confidence at speeds beyond that which can be done safely on public roads.
Riders are encouraged to expand their comfort zones safely and incrementally. Everyone starts out at different speeds & everyone learns at different rates. We strive to minimize the peer-group pressure & anxiety to ride faster than you are comfortable with and encourage riders to learn at their own safe pace.
Through experience we have determined that there are minimum safe speeds for riders on the track, especially first time riders in group C. Riding below minimum safe speeds creates blocking & overtaking hazards for everyone on the track.
If you are not maintaining minimum safe speeds during the morning sessions you will be approached by a lead instructor and/or PSSR management before returning to the track. If it is determined that you are unable to maintain minimum safe track speeds you will be offered your money back or credit for future PSSR track days. After gaining sufficient riding experience & confidence you are welcome to return to PSSR track days.
If you question whether your experience and confidence are sufficient to ride safely at a PSSR track day please contact us and our registrar, Dan, Al or Tom will help determine if you are ready to ride with PSSR. We have helped hundreds of riders new to the track improve their skills and safely gain confidence in their riding ability while having a ton of fun on 2 wheels.
Since there are riders of all levels of experience on the track, always use caution when overtaking and passing. Remember, this is not a race. Maintain a steady line when cornering, signal by raising your hand when leaving the track and pay attention to flaggers.
Specific track passing rules will be covered in the riders meeting on the morning of all track days.
